Journalist Fabrizio Romano has offered an update on Alexander Isak amid rumours that Newcastle United could look to sell him in the summer.
CEO Darren Eales made it clear in January that Newcastle don’t have a bottomless pit of money and suggested that they could be forced to sell a big player to build enough funds to reinvest in the squad.
That sparked rumours that Isak may be the one to be moved on, but speaking to Caught Offside, Romano is claiming that he’s not heard of any offers or contacts for the striker just yet.
Romano has heard nothing on Newcastle’s star striker
There’s been a growing fear amongst Newcastle supporters that one of Isak, Bruno Guimaraes or Sven Botman ever since Eales did that interview back in January.
It would not be ideal for the club whatsoever, but the lack of sellable assets in the squad means that they are limited with who they could possibly move on for a decent fee.
Two other names who have been mentioned is Callum Wilson and Miguel Almiron who were a topic of interest in the January window and could collectively bring in close to £40m which would definitely help Newcastle’s budget.
Despite reports suggesting that Isak would be the one to leave and that Chelsea were showing interest, Romano has claimed that he’s not heard anything just yet and that the situation is ‘very quiet’.
On Isak, Romano said: “Despite stories about Chelsea interest and Newcastle needing to sell because of FFP, I honestly have nothing to report about Alexander Isak at this stage.
“No contacts, no talks, very quiet situation.
“I don’t have any information on Isak for the summer so far. It’s still early, so let’s see!”

Newcastle simply must keep hold of Isak
A fee upwards of £100m would be very tempting for Newcastle and open so many doors for them in terms of improving the squad in a number of different areas.
However, that’s also going to leave them in desperate need of a new star striker, and whoever they find as a replacement is very unlikely to be anywhere near as good as Isak has proved to be in the last 18 months.
Behind Erling Haaland, the Swedish international has been one of the most impressive and clinical strikers in Europe, it would be absolutely ridiculous to see him moved on especially when good forwards are so hard to come by these days.
Whatever the fee, it would simply not be worth cashing in on the 24-year-old who could lead the club into what the owners are hoping will be the most successful period in its modern history.
