Newcastle United are crying out for an attacking midfielder, and Eddie Howe knows that.
The Magpies need more creativity in central areas, while they are also a midfielder light after Sean Longstaff joined Leeds.
With Newcastle eyeing three signings, it is vital that one of them is a midfielder.
That could become a reality, with Newcastle interested in Bilal El Khannouss. The 21-year-old has a release clause in his contract that allows him to leave Leicester City for £22.5million, and it could be Eddie Howe that activates it.
Signing the Morocco international could be a shrewd bit of business by the Magpies, with the Toon Army extremely keen to see El Khannouss in a black and white shirt.

Newcastle United fans really want to sign Bilal El Khannouss
Following a claim that Newcastle United are interested in signing the attacking midfielder from Leicester City, supporters have been giving their verdict on X.
It is fair to say that a lot of supporters are very keen on the idea of El Khannouss joining the current Newcastle United squad!
One Newcastle fan wrote: “Please just pay the release clause for Bilal El Khannouss, #Newcastle. A kid this age and with this much talent already, he’s obviously a bargain. Just jump in there, pay it, get it done….come on.”
A second Toon supporter commented: “El Khannouss links excite me, I can’t lie. Thought he looked excellent for Leicester last season. Hopefully legs in this one.”
Another Newcastle fan noted: “Big fan of getting El Khannouss in. Already shown he is Prem quality and looked one of Leicester’s best players last season. Not long turned 21 too so the potential is massive.”
This member of the Toon Army posted: “This would be a cracking signing for #NUFC. All for it, someone with loads of potential but is also very different to what we have.”
Whether Newcastle United are going to move for Lucas Paqueta
As interest in El Khannouss emerges, it has also been suggested that Lucas Paqueta is a target for Newcastle.
A move for the Brazilian would delight Toon fans, while it would also put a smile on Bruno Guimaraes’ face. The Newcastle United captain is best friends with Paqueta, and it would be incredible to see them link up in black and white.
However, it does not look like that dream will be becoming a reality.
That is because Sky Sports’ Keith Downie has stated on X that the Magpies are not currently looking to sign Paqueta from West Ham.
The 27-year-old is not Toon-bound, but El Khannouss could be.
While he is not at the same level as Paqueta, he could be a smarter buy for Eddie Howe. He will be much cheaper given his £22.5million release clause, while he has also got age on his side. El Khannouss is seven years younger, with Paqueta set to turn 28 before the end of August.
Newcastle United are a club that is constantly looking at the bigger picture, and that is why a player like El Khannouss looks ideally suited to the Magpies’ needs.
