Eddie Howe offered a cryptic response when asked about Newcastle United’s interest in AC Milan defender Malick Thiaw.
Thiaw is reportedly set to sign for Newcastle after the club agreed a fee with Milan worth around £34m for the German international.
Fabrizio Romano has claimed the Italian giants have verbally accepted an offer from Newcastle for the defender, in what would be a major boost for Howe.
While this has been a dreadful summer for the club, the signing of a new central defender before the Premier League campaign starts has to be seen as a positive.
Indeed, the 24-year-old now looks set to become the club’s third signing of the summer following the additions of both Anthony Elanga and Aaron Ramsdale.
Still, evasive as ever, the Newcastle United manager delivered his response to the mounting transfer links on Saturday.

Eddie Howe refuses to confirm Newcastle United will sign Malick Thiaw
Howe was speaking after Newcastle lost 2-0 to Atletico Madrid in the Sela Cup at St James’ Park.
Obviously, he was coaching the team at the time the news broke, so may not have been in an accurate position to fully confirm what was going on.
Asked about the deal by BBC Radio Newcastle commentator Matthew Raisbeck, he said: “Let’s see what happens.”
Malick Thiaw set for Newcastle United medical imminently
Newcastle wanted to sign a new defender this summer and it seems they finally have one.
According to Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie, Thiaw is set to have a medical on Tyneside in the next 48 hours.
It’s also added that the former Schalke centre-back will likely sign a four-year contract with Newcastle.
It’s a major positive for the club after a bruising summer. Now, they just need a forward, a central midfielder and to sort out the Alexander Isak saga.
That should be easy enough…
