Eddie Howe has decided the player he wants to build Newcastle’s team around and he won’t be sold

Newcastle United have had to deal with key players being linked away all summer.

Indeed, given the balancing act required to keep in line with FFP and PSR rules in the Premier League, the prospect of cashing in on a big-name Newcastle star was first raised back in January.

Thankfully, neither Alexander Isak nor Bruno Guimaraes have yet left St James’ Park.

While Eddie Howe has already warned that selling either would set the club back in their ambitions to challenge for major honours, the situation surrounding Guimaraes in particular was concerning.

The midfielder had a release clause worth around £100m in his contract on Tyneside but, thankfully, that is no longer active – meaning Newcastle are free to reject any offers for the Brazilian.

Isak, meanwhile, has talked of his desire to stay at the club after a prolific campaign in which he scored 21 Premier League goals.

Still, with the PSR deadline of June 30 fast approaching, Isak has been linked away again.

There were suggestions Chelsea were keen, although those at St James’ are confident the Blues will simply not be able to afford the Sweden international.

For his part, Howe is seemingly pretty adamant about the matter.

Eddie Howe has already made a big decision on Alexander Isak at Newcastle

According to the Daily Telegraph’s Luke Edwards on X (formerly Twitter), Howe wants to build his team around Isak and is not considering any outcome in which the 24-year-old departs.

Isak is said to be settled in the North East too, meaning the Chelsea interest looks like something of a non-starter.

Newcastle insiders are really excited about Alexander Isak

Not only does Howe hugely rate Isak, there were reports earlier this month suggesting that people at Newcastle genuinely believe Isak can become the best striker in world football.

With that in mind, it’s of little surprise that are not even considering the prospect of a sale.
