Daniel Levy wants James Maddison at Spurs

Newcastle United’s top transfer target is still Leicester City’s James Maddison, but despite having no manager in place, Daniel Levy wants the England playmaker at Tottenham.

According to a report in The Daily Mail, Spurs chairman Daniel Levy wants Maddison at Tottenham next season to link up with Harry Kane.

Several spanners have been thrown in the works lately when it comes to Newcastle‘s pursuit of their main man Maddison ahead of the summer transfer window.

So many things have shifted in the James Maddison saga this weekend

Leicester City parted company with Brendan Rodgers at the weekend in a desperate attempt to avoid the drop this season. Tottenham are still without a new manager following the sacking of Antonio Conte and have been heavily tipped with a move for Rodgers. Given Rodgers relationship with Maddison and the fact that Daniel Levy wants him at Spurs, that could prove to be an issue for Newcastle.

Then of course, there’s the mystery of who takes over at Leicester and if they can persuade Maddison to stay at the King Power Stadium. That will also likely depend on whether the Foxes retain their Premier League status.

So many things could scupper Newcastle’s best laid plans when it comes to bagging their number one priority target. It has been widely reported that the Magpies were to go back to Leicester with another offer for the £60million rated man this summer, and while that’s still likely to happen, there are now so many more variables to consider.

I remain confident that Newcastle will be the frontrunners to sign Maddison. All signs still point to that conclusion. Regardless of who Leicester bring in to replace Rodgers and whether they avoid the drop or not, Leicester are on the decline and if Maddison is serious about proving himself at the highest level, he will want to move.

Newcastle remain favourites to sign Maddison

Tottenham are just a mess of a club lately. Daniel Levy doesn’t seem to know what he’s doing any more, Conte was a disaster, their Director of Football has had to step back after being banned from football, they couldn’t even beat struggling Everton last night. Perhaps most worryingly, they’re likely to lose their biggest star in Harry Kane this summer.

Newcastle, meanwhile, have the richest backers in world football who’ve laid out their plans for a very exciting project that includes total domination, we’ve got a young, exciting manager in Eddie Howe who is able to get the best out of players, we’ve got Bruno in the middle, Botman at the back Isak in attack …. sorry. Seriously though, a player like Maddison would thrive alongside Bruno Guimaraes and Alexander Isak. With Sven Botman the Rolls Royce leading the defensive line alongside Kieran Trippier – why wouldn’t he want to come to Newcastle?

If/when Newcastle finish above Tottenham this season that will be the nail in the coffin of Spurs’ Maddison hopes as he packs his bags and starts looking at houses in Darras Hall. I am very confident on this.
