Dan Burn has shared his opinion on the shocking news that Alexander Isak has asked to explore his options away from Newcastle United this summer.

The news came as a massive shock to many on Thursday afternoon, especially after what had been said throughout the summer. Alexander Isak is not for sale and it would take a gargantuan offer nearing the world record transfer fee to let him leave.

However, Isak has now stated his intent to explore his options away from Newcastle United following serious interest from the likes of Liverpool. Arne Slot’s side have made an informal approach for the Swede this summer, but were met with a resounding ‘no’ from Newcastle officials.

Geordie Boot Boys understand Al Hilal are also interested in Isak, and are ready to give him an offer which will be very difficult to refuse.

Elsewhere, Isak believes Newcastle have a lack of ambition, despite the club winning the Carabao Cup last season and qualifying for the Champions League. This summer was supposed to be transformational, but instead, the Magpies’ star striker could be going.

Amid the speculation, fan favourite Dan Burn has become one of the first Newcastle players to go public about his teammate.

Dan Burn wants Alexander Isak to stay at Newcastle United

Burn became a big hero on Tyneside after his efforts in the Carabao Cup final. A goal and sensational performance helped Newcastle win their first silverware since 1969. However, it was Isak’s goal that effectively sealed the deal, a half volley from inside the penalty area to double the Magpies’ lead.

Those memories could soon be tarnished if Isak does opt to move away; fans will be left completely distraught about it. In fact, Newcastle fans are in complete shock with Isak; they never thought it would come to this.

It appears Burn thought exactly the same. Speaking to Sky Sports after touching down in Singapore, the defender said: “If we lost any player it would upset our tight-knit group that’s been together a few years now. We are looking forward to getting him back when he’s fit.

“It’s a question for Alex to answer. He’s obviously a big player for us, but we do have a lot of quality in the squad as well. Bringing Anthony (Elanga) in as well, which I think was a great signing.”

Dan Burn could have a new partner in defence at Newcastle United

The transfer window has not gone the way many fans would have liked. Only one major signing has come through the door, and the player sales have not been backed up with replacements. A lot of work needs to be done, especially at centre-back.

Newcastle have a very old centre-back partnership of Fabian Schar and Burn. The pair are both 33 and have just a year left on their deal, albeit with a year’s extension for Burn. Aside from Sven Botman, every other backup option is in their 30s.

Eddie Howe could look to use academy players like Alex Murphy or Cathal Heffernan, but there will naturally be concern over whether they are ready to play in the Premier League. As well as a striker, Newcastle want to sign a centre-back this summer.

One player linked with a move is Giorgio Scalvini, but there are concerns over his price tag. Elsewhere, Geordie Boot Boys understand that Newcastle are big fans of Malick Thiaw, who could cost as little as £21m.
