Newcastle United know they need to become better at player trading.
In the era of PSR, it is a key way for Newcastle United to increase their transfer budget.
However, identifying players to sell is not easy for the Magpies. They are determined to keep their top stars, with Alexander Isak and Sandro Tonali set to stay at St James’ Park.
Instead, Toon officials will decide which fringe players to let go. Sean Longstaff could leave Newcastle, while another midfielder is attracting interest.
Crystal Palace consider Joe Willock transfer
The player in question is Joe Willock.

According to the Chronicle’s Everything Is Black And White podcast, Crystal Palace are interested in signing the 25-year-old midfielder.
They report that Crystal Palace owner Steve Parish has been advised to sign Willock, with the Eagles’ transfer officials believing that a deal is actually possible.
Newcastle United fans questioning Willock’s form
Interest from Crystal Palace comes at a time when Willock’s role at St James’ Park is under the microscope.
He has come into the Magpies’ midfield to replace the injured Joelinton, but has struggled to have a serious impact.
While Howe insists that Willock needs a run of games, the consensus among supporters is different. Some Newcastle fans want Willock to be dropped in favour of Lewis Miley.
It has been a difficult season for Willock, and it could be that a move away from Tyneside is best for all parties.
A transfer would give Newcastle an additional PSR boost, while it would allow Willock to be a guaranteed starter somewhere else.
When Joe Willock’s Newcastle contract expires
Newcastle do need to make a decision about Willock’s future in the next 12 months. That is because his contract is due to expire in 2027.
He signed a six-year deal after arriving from Arsenal for £25million in 2021. Willock was the last permanent signing of the Mike Ashley era.
With two years to run on his current deal, Newcastle know that decision time is looming. By the time the summer of 2026 arrives, they either need to have extended his contract or cashed in.
Either way, there is no chance that Newcastle United will let him leave for nothing in 2027. That would represent bad business.
