Newcastle fans have been sparked into life on Twitter after a very, very cryptic tweet from Jetro Willems.

The 22-cap Netherlands international, of course, spent some time on loan with us last season.

We all fell in love with the 26-year-old over the course of his 19 Premier League appearances. Willems impressively netted goals against Liverpool and Manchester City, while also grabbing an assist for Matty Longstaff in a 1-0 win over Manchester United.

Sadly, Willems suffered a contrasting fate against another top-six side. The ex-PSV man was stretchered off against Chelsea, bringing an end to his loan spell with us, as well as any potential chance of a permanent deal.

However, now the full-back has recovered, he has sent the St James’ Park faithful into frenzy with a cryptic tweet hinting at a potential transfer.

Willems tweeted: ‘Omw….’  which stands for ‘on my way’ along with two emojis showing someone running, potentially suggesting that he’s heading away from Eintracht Frankfurt.

In theory, it could mean absolutely nothing of significance. However, there’s no fun in thinking like that, is there?

It remains to be seen where he’s on his way to, although that hasn’t stopped the Toon Army talking about it…
