Many, many names have been linked with the club since the takeover went through back on October.

It is exciting to see who will walk through the door, and how much money will be spent.

More than likely, there will be a couple of marquee signings, some free signings and perhaps a loan or two.

There are several names that would fit the bill of a ‘marquee’ signing. The likes of Darwin Nunez, Sven Botman and Christian Eriksen would all classify.

But perhaps Newcastle ought to be looking to try and sign a player they were linked with when he was a youngster, but has now developed into a superstar.

Christopher Nkunku was supposedly on Newcastle’s radar when he was on the books at Paris Saint-Germain (The Daily Mail print edition, p 85, January 11, 2019).

In the end, the Frenchman made a move to RB Leipzig, where he has been since the summer of 2019.

This season, the 24-year-old has been absolutely tearing it up for the Bundesliga outfit.

So far, he’s plundered 30 goals in 42 games across all competitions. He’s also made a very impressive 18 assists in total.

Those are some unbelievable numbers for a player who rarely plays the same position in back-to-back games.

It’s possible Leipzig will consider offers for him this summer. He’ll only have a couple of years left on his contract.

He’ll undoubtedly be massively expensive though for any potential suitor. But potentially he’s be worth a big outlay by Newcastle.

If Newcastle are spending big on one player, it should be on Christopher Nkunku

Newcastle might have signed Nkunku years ago. But one could argue that he would not have developed into the player he is today.

The star has shown serious development over the past couple of years, and now looks to be the kind of all-action attacking midfielder any top club would want.

Newcastle do still lack an out-and-out attacking midfielder, and Nkunku would be an absolutely cracking signing.

Not only is he technical and creative, but he is very quick and is fairly strong despite not being the tallest.

His numbers this season say it all; Nkunku is the real deal.
