Chelsea have now placed a huge bid for one European star who Newcastle United are known to have been tracking very recently.

Viktor Gyokeres has been impressing over in Portugal with his new team Sporting Lisbon, but teams are already starting to take notice and want to bring him to the Premier League.

According to a new repot from Record, Chelsea have submitted a bid of around £73m for the attacker, though it has fallen short of his £86m release clause.

Newcastle had been scouting Gyokeres just days ago

Newcastle are big admirers of Gyokeres who is really enjoying life in Lisbon this season after making the move from Championship side Coventry in the summer.

About a week ago it was reported that Newcastle had sent scouts to watch over the Swedish international as he recorded three assists in a 5-1 win for Sporting who are the current league leaders.

Gyokeres now has a ‘brilliant‘ record of 30 goal contributions for the season, an unbelievable record for someone who spent so long in the Championship without getting the praise he deserved.

There will be a number of top clubs now kicking themselves for missing out on his summer transfer as Lisbon managed to secure him for around £20m, but it looks like he’s now going to cost over four times that.

Alexander Isak is a big fan of Gyokeres

With both Isak and Gyokeres being Sweden’s star players battling amongst Europe’s elite, the pair have gotten to know each other quite well and the Newcastle striker loves playing with him.

Isak praised Gyokeres’ physicality in particular, claiming that the work he does up front to win his duels helps to create space for the more technical attacker who prefers to drive at defenders.

Having the Swedish attacking duo on Tyneside would be an incredible partnership and one that wouldn’t take much time to get used to given their international history.

It’s unlikely to happen any time soon because of Newcastle’s lack of funds, at least in January, but they are certainly on the lookout for a new striker and it’s a nice idea to think about for the future.
