Things have not gone to plan for Callum Wilson since leaving Newcastle United for West Ham.

The striker was released by Newcastle United during the summer, having spent five years at St James’ Park.

Newcastle United did want to keep Wilson, but he opted to go elsewhere rather than act as understudy to Alexander Isak.

That resulted in Wilson joining West Ham on a one-year deal, but he may not see that contract out.

Would you take Wilson back at Newcastle as a third choice striker? 👀

Callum Wilson wants to leave West Ham

Wilson started West Ham’s 3-0 defeat to Wolves on Saturday, but it is unclear if he will play for the Hammers again.

That is because the Guardian have reported that Wilson is in talks to leave West Ham during the January transfer window.

They report that he is unhappy at the London Stadium under Nuno Espirito Santo and wants a new challenge.

The Guardian add that Wilson may not leave West Ham until the end of the January transfer window, despite Nuno already adding two new strikers to his squad in Pablo Felipe and Taty Castellanos.

Wilson has made 18 appearances for the Hammers this season, scoring four goals and providing one assist.

No Newcastle United return for Callum Wilson

Given what happened over the summer regarding Alexander Isak and Newcastle’s difficulty in finding a replacement, Wilson may wonder what would have happened had he remained on Tyneside.

His West Ham move is turning into a nightmare, and now he is seeking a new opportunity.

Fill in the blank ✍️ Will Osula will be a _ player by the end of the January transfer window!

However, that opportunity will not see him return to Newcastle United. While the Magpies would like to sign a striker to facilitate Will Osula’s potential exit, there is simply no way that Wilson will come back.

He would be the third choice striker behind Yoane Wissa and Nick Woltemade, meaning he would be further down the pecking order than when he left six months ago.
