Burnley supporters have taken to Twitter to pile praise on Jeff Hendrick following his debut for Newcastle.
If the 28-year-old’s Magpies debut is anything to go by, it looks like the Clarets made a mistake in not trying harder to tie the Dublin-born player down.
Hendrick shone for us against West Ham on Saturday. Our new No.16 grabbed an assist for Callum Wilson to net on his debut, before doing the exact same himself with a wonder-strike into the top left corner.
He was also awarded the WhoScored Man of the Match award for his decisive performance, in which neither of our goals would’ve happened without his influence.
Things couldn’t have gone much better for our free transfer on his debut, and judging by the Burnley fans’ reactions to his display, it seems like Lee Charnley has done an excellent bit of business here.
You can usually tell a lot from how a player’s former fanbase react following their exit, and it’s clear to see that Hendrick was a popular man at Turf Moor and one who hasn’t left Burnley after crossing a burned bridge.
Let’s see what they’ve been saying about the Irishman…
Burnley fans praise Jeff Hendrick following his stunning Newcastle debut
So happy for Jeff Hendrick man, was scapegoated from Burnley fans despite him playing out of position half the time

I’ll admit I wasn’t the biggest Hendrick fan in his first few seasons but as I matured as a fan and watched him more I grew to see how important he was for us. Gutted he’s gone.

Buzzing for the fella 👏🏻

Yes for sure. There was a reason Dyche played him every week but the Burnley fans didn’t like him.

Massive mistake from Burnley not to sign him on a new deal. We will regret next season big time

Yeah same, what a man
