Newcastle United are in a difficult position in regards to Bruno Guimaraes this summer.
Clearly, the fact there is hope that Newcastle will be able to keep a hold of their stay player for at least another season is a positive.
As is the fact he’s constantly talked about his desire to stay at St James’ Park.
Indeed, the likes of Craig Hope have even suggested he will in fact remain a Newcastle player next season.
The mood music is all pretty good – but there’s one problem.
Indeed, Guimaraes does have a release clause in his contract on Tyneside. While his agents are said to be pretty relaxed about his situation right now, it won’t matter too much if a club come in and pay the money.
In that event, Newcastle would be powerless to stop him leaving, albeit the player could always reject the move.

It must be said that there is no suggestion Guimaraes is actively looking to leave, just that the Etihad Stadium is where he’d rather go should he depart.
While Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain have been linked, City would be where he sees his career going next.

City have proven willing to spend big money on Premier League players before, having signed Jack Grealish for a similar fee in 2020.
Whether or not they will move for Guimaraes at such huge expense to play second-fiddle to Rodri remains to be seen of course but they may have already set the wheels in motion.
