The idea that Bruno Guimaraes could leave Newcastle United for Chelsea always seemed remote and, thankfully for supporters, it may just be speculation.

Indeed, unconfirmed reports strewn across social media suggested that Chelsea were keen on both Guimaraes and Newcastle United teammate Sandro Tonali.

It’s been a tough year but name YOUR player of the season and share why 👇

The two have been tipped to leave this summer ahead of what is expected to be a busy few months on Tyneside as the club look to rebuild following a poor season.

Guimaraes won’t push for a move away from Newcastle and those suggestions he could join the Blues currently appear to be wide of the mark.

Chelsea have NOT made a move for Guimaraes

According to Standard Sport, the west London giants have not made moves to sign either Newcastle United player this summer.

Furthermore, Alex Crook of talkSPORT suggests that the idea the Blues could look to sign players is not currently the case at all.

Let us know who disappointed YOU the most this season 👇

As ever, feel free to mention anyone not pictured

Clearly, that doesn’t mean other clubs won’t come in for either. It is, however, hard to see how Newcastle sell both of their star midfielders in the same summer – particularly when Anthony Gordon will likely be sold for big money.

Frankly, selling Guimaraes would be a ludicrous decision at Newcastle. He has been the one constant in a season of chaos when fit.

While selling a player approaching 30 with only two years left on his contract makes a degree of financial sense, none of that should be applied to Guimaraes.

The midfielder is simply too important to the way in which this team operate. He is the poster boy of the PIF era. Some players come and go, but Guimaraes has made himself a legend on Tyneside.

There are so many other players – even leading names in the squad – who should be sold before the brilliant Brazilian.

Without him, Newcastle would lose some of their identity.
