Brighton’s stance on selling Joao Pedro to Newcastle United after the forward’s big request

Brighton could be willing to sell Newcastle United transfer target Joao Pedro this summer.

Pedro was a Newcastle United target as far back as the summer of 2022 but ultimately remained at Watford until he joined Brighton the year after.

Newcastle are keen to sign Pedro but actually doing so won’t be easy, even if the south coast side are open to a sale in the right circumstances.

The Seagulls have proven themselves tough negotiators over the years, while Pedro has requested first-team football to join Newcastle

Why Brighton could sell Joao Pedro to Newcastle United

According to The Athletic, a key part of Brighton’s recruitment model is to sell their leading players, should they deem it the right time.

While that doesn’t mean they will cash in cheaply, showing players that they won’t stand in their way should an opportunity arise to further their careers elsewhere is a major part of the work done on the south coast.

Though not actively looking to sell, it’s said they would be willing to if the right price emerged. Previously, The Sun have claimed Brighton value the player at around £70million, which would break Newcastle’s transfer record.

It’s further claimed that Pedro is among the most “obvious” candidates for attracting interest this summer.

What Newcastle United have said about breaking the club’s transfer record this summer

Isak is Newcastle’s most expensive ever player, with the club shelling out £63million to sign him from Real Sociedad in 2022.

That, however, may not last long.

Howe has confirmed Newcastle could break their transfer record this summer, which is certainly exciting to hear after a period in which the club have struggled to sign players.

Whether such expenditure is on Pedro or not remains to be seen. Still, it seems Newcastle are indeed willing to splash the cash.

Overpaying for targets is a risk, there’s little doubt about that. However, at some point, the team needs investment and that rather obviously costs money. Howe cannot go on performing miracles forever.
