Bournemouth’s transfer stance on Newcastle United-linked Antoine Semenyo ahead of January window

Newcastle United are in the market for a winger, and Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo is on their radar.

With the January transfer window looming, Paul Mitchell is getting his plans in place. It has been reported that Newcastle’s priority is to sign a winger, with the need for a centre-back set to decrease once Sven Botman returns from injury in December.

It remains to be seen who the Magpies’ top target will be. Anthony Elanga could be an option after Toon officials failed to sign him in the summer, while Newcastle have scouted Monaco star Maghnes Akliouche.

Newcastle have also been linked with Antoine Semenyo, as he continues to impress for Bournemouth.

Semenyo would be an exciting addition, as he has really kicked on in a Bournemouth shirt under Andoni Iraola.

The 24-year-old has scored three goals and provided one assist so far this season, whilst also showing the kind of versatility that Eddie Howe would love to utilise. He has played on the right, the left and through the middle, which is exactly what Anthony Gordon does for Newcastle United.

But while Semenyo is proving why he would be a good signing for Newcastle, Bournemouth are not preparing to let the attacker leave.

How Bournemouth feel about Semenyo’s future

According to TalkSPORT, Bournemouth are very relaxed about Semenyo’s future at the Vitality Stadium, despite his performances attracting interest from the likes of Newcastle.

TalkSPORT state that it would take a huge fee for Bournemouth to sell Semenyo, with the Ghana international signing a new five-year deal with the Cherries over the summer.

Given that security, it is going to be very difficult for Newcastle or any club to sign him in 2025.

Newcastle may have to think outside the box

Semenyo’s ability is no secret. And that is why Newcastle may need to think outside the box when it comes to signing a winger in January.

While Semenyo is a proven Premier League talent, the Magpies will have to pay a premium for that luxury.

And with the threat of PSR always looming, it would be wise of Newcastle to look further afield. They will be able to find better value in Europe, just like they did when they bought Sven Botman and Bruno Guimaraes from Ligue 1 clubs in 2022.

While that would mean whoever arrives would need a longer settling in period, it could benefit Newcastle in the long run.

That is something that the Newcastle United sporting director will be debating, as Paul Mitchell and Eddie Howe weigh up who to target in January.
