Barcelona have been watching one Newcastle United player with a keen eye this month as they look to prepare for a busy summer window.

Newcastle have been the focus of a lot of clubs in recent weeks with the likes of Kieran Trippier, Callum Wilson and Miguel Almiron all attracting interest.

Now, a new report from Mundo Deportivo claims that Barcelona have been watching over Newcastle loanee Yankuba Minteh who is currently at Feyenoord but has recently been playing at AFCON with The Gambia.

Barcelona watching exciting Newcastle talent

Newcastle have placed a huge emphasis on developing the best young talent from around the world and promoting them to the first team ever since the takeover was confirmed and Dan Ashworth was hired.

Minteh was one of the first potential young stars to be signed as he arrived at Newcastle in the summer from Odense for just under £6m and was immediately sent out on loan.

While at the Dutch club, Minteh has had a taste of first-team football in a top European division as well as Champions League football where he made four appearances and scored one goal.

Across the course of the season, the Newcastle youngster has recorded a total of six goal contributions despite not being a definite starter for Arne Slot who described the 19-year-old as ‘really impressive‘.

Newcastle’s transfer model could massively help in the long-term

While Newcastle fans may grow frustrated that the ownership aren’t currently investing heavily into the first team, they will be reaping the benefits of signing potential stars in the future.

Minteh may not exactly be a star right now but he is showing a lot of promise and desire to one day reach the top and could be a very valuable asset to Newcastle in the not too distant future.

Even if he doesn’t become a regular player for Newcastle and ends up somewhere like Barcelona, the club will at least have received a decent fee for selling a talented player, something they can’t do right now.

This will free up a lot more space in the future for signing first-team players, so it’s something that the supporters may not be able to see happen right in front of them but behind the scenes it will massively benefit the club.
