This time last year all the media transfer links surrounding Newcastle United were about French winger Moussa Diaby from Bayer Leverkusen.
A year on and while it’s believed Newcastle still hold an interest in the 24-year-old, Moussa Diaby has slipped down the Magpies’ priority list quite a way.
In fact, it now looks as if Unai Emery‘s Aston Villa lead the way to sign Diaby. The Daily Mail reports that Villa have made contact over a move for Diaby but they would have to shatter their transfer record to land him.
Diaby is wanted by several PL clubs including Newcastle
The pacey winger, who Bundesliga.com who say his speed of thought is ‘astonishing’, has plenty more attributes and would be a menace in the Premier League.

With Newcastle edging closer to signing Harvey Barnes, the completion of that deal could all-but end Newcastle’s interest in Diaby, especially with Leverkusen standing firm on their £50million valuation.
Arsenal are also still potentially in the mix for Diaby, and if they were to make a bid you’d expect that The Emirates would be his preferred destination given his desire to play Champions League football.
If we really wanted Diaby that much surely we’d have got him by now
That latter point is what could prove tricky for Aston Villa, but Unai Emery could still be a big draw for talent such as Diaby.

After all the chasing Newcastle reportedly did over the last 12 months it will certainly sting if Diaby ends up at a rival Premier League club, especially if he goes on to be successful, but again – we must have faith in the regime.
If Newcastle’s team of scouts and Eddie Howe really wanted Diaby that badly they’d have paid the £50million by now.
