Aston Villa are now set to enter the race for James Maddison despite the fact that the England midfielder is said to be in talks with Newcastle United over a summer move.
A report in the Birmingham Mail points towards a tweet from Italian journalist, Rudy Galetti which claims that Aston Villa are now interested in James Maddison.
It’s believed that Newcastle are in talks with Maddison over a summer move having chased the 26-year-old since last Summer, but that doesn’t seem to have deterred Aston Villa or Tottenham who also retain an interest in the Leicester playmaker.
Aston Villa have entered the race for James Maddison
Aston Villa beat Tottenham to European qualification on the last day of the season and now want to rub salt into the wound by beating Spurs to the signature of Maddison.
However, Newcastle remain firm favourites to land the England international with the Magpies already further down the line with talks after a lengthy pursuit.

Eddie Howe has kept Maddison high on his list of priorities following several failed attempts to lure him away from The Foxes last summer and in January.
Bias aside, Newcastle are still the most attractive prospect of the three interested clubs
Newcastle fans were convinced Maddison was set to become a Magpie in January following his bonding sessions with the Newcastle boys in the England World Cup camp, but Leicester’s £60million valuation was higher than Newcastle’s and an agreement couldn’t be reached.
Interest from Tottenham and Aston Villa isn’t a worry, Newcastle are the obvious choice ahead of those clubs with their amazing project under PIF and Champions League football. Tottenham are a club in turmoil and will find it hard to attract players this summer. Aston Villa are on the rise under Unai Emery and were a surprise package at the end of last season, but Newcastle should be able to offer a more exciting prospect.
I’m backing Newcastle to finally get their man this summer.
