Newcastle United have been handed a huge boost in their bid to sign an Arsenal midfielder in this upcoming summer window.
Arsenal have been very impressive this year and again are challenging for the Premier League title, but there’s one player who’s been left in the dark after such a bright start to his career at the Emirates.
Emile Smith Rowe has played just 228 minutes in the league this season and now a report from Football Transfers suggests that Arsenal will look to move him on amid rumours Newcastle are still after him.
Newcastle given boost in bid for forgotten Arsenal man
Newcastle’s midfield has arguably been their biggest weakness this season both going forwards and defensively, largely due to injuries but there is also a lack of variation in their options.
The Magpies are not only lacking a traditional defensive midfielder, but they’re also missing someone to be a bit more creative further up the pitch even despite the brilliant efforts of Bruno Guimaraes.
Newcastle don’t typically play with a traditional number 10 which is where Smith Rowe prefers, but with his ‘special‘ talent he’s showed previously at Arsenal there could be space for him in this team.
It was only a couple of years ago when the now 23-year-old hit double figures for goals in the league and he’ll certainly have a point to prove if he does leave Arsenal this summer, which is the exact kind of player Eddie Howe loves to sign.

Newcastle may be forced to stump up the cash
Arsenal are understood to be willing to sell smith Rowe but that doesn’t necessarily mean they’d be willing to sell to Newcastle given their ambitions for the future and how that move could one day come back to haunt them.
Newcastle, like so many times before, may then be asked to wildly overpay for the midfielder, especially with every club in world football now aware of the owners’ wealth, so it’s going to prove to be pretty difficult to strike a deal.
The Geordies are already struggling financially having not made an permanent signings in January and it’s unclear what kind of budget they will have in the summer with Champions League money rolling in.
Smith Rowe does present an exciting project for Howe and Newcastle but whether they’re willing to splash the cash on a forgotten Arsenal man remains to be seen.
