Despite failing with their first bid for Declan Rice, Arsenal are now set to step away from their alternative target who is also wanted by Newcastle United.

After Arsenal‘s initial bid for England star Declan Rice was turned down by West Ham it was believed that Manchester City could swoop in and beat the Gunners to the 24-year-old’s signature.

However, The Times claim that Arsenal have pulled out of the race to sign Moises Caicedo from Brighton which suggests they’re still confident of getting Declan Rice.

Brighton have slapped a whopping £80m price tag on Caicedo

Brighton are resigned to losing ‘unbelievable‘ Caicedo this summer but have also slapped an eye-watering £80million price tag on the Ecuadorian.

Newcastle have been said to have an interest in Caicedo as they look to add a number 6 to the side to allow Bruno Guimaraes to more further forward, however they were put off by the Seagulls’ valuation.

With Arsenal now dropping out of the race, Brighton may be forced to rethink their valuation. Obviously Brighton want to keep him at the Amex, but they are aware that Caicedo wants a move and they’ll be conscious that they may end up with an unsettled player on their hands when the season kicks off if he’s not found a new club.

Newcastle will bide their time before launching any bid for Caicedo

Chelsea and Manchester United are also in the running for the 21-year-old, but so far neither side has hinted that they’d be willing to part with such a high figure for the youngster. And that’s the same Chelsea that practically flew a plane filled with money over Europe last year and starting throwing wads of cash to the ground … metaphorically speaking.

Newcastle also haven’t made any public moves for Caicedo as yet, but as we know, the hierarchy do like to bide their time in the market and will not be rushed into any wild decisions. If any move is to be made by Newcastle it will likely be when Brighton drop their asking price.

There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that Caicedo would be a quality addition to Eddie Howe‘s squad, but as I’ve said before, £80million for a 21-year-old after one good season is sheer madness.
