After seven years at Newcastle United and with three more remaining on his contract but no place in the squad, Isaac Hayden finds himself in a strange place right now.

28-year-old Isaac Hayden saw a loan move to Premier League side Luton Town collapse earlier this week as personal terms could not be agreed between the player and the top-flight newcomers.

Now it looks like the Arsenal academy graduate will have to step down to the Championship once again if he’s to find first-team football again.

Hayden’s versatility was a big plus for Newcastle

Isaac has been a ‘superb‘ servant to Newcastle with his versatility coming in clutch several times over the years, but it’s clear Eddie Howe doesn’t believe he’s good enough for his new-look Newcastle United.

As such Hayden spent last season on loan at Championship side Norwich where he only made 14 appearances for the Canaries due to recurring issues with a knee injury.

It now appears that the Championship beckons again for Hayden with West Brom lining up a loan move for the midfielder according to journalist Darren Witcoop.

Hayden has options available to him in the Championship

Witcoop has posted on X: “West Brom and Sheffield Wednesday among the Championship clubs to have asked Newcastle about taking midfielder Isaac Hayden on loan. Hayden saw a move to Luton collapse this week. Fellow Magpies outcast Jeff Hendrick also heading to the second-tier.”

Hayden was the beneficiary of one of the ridiculous long-term contracts that were handed out like nightclub flyers under Mike Ashley and as such still has three years remaining on his Newcastle contract which is making it difficult to move him on.

Another loan move does seem like the only option right now, but if he moves on loan and becomes a success maybe that will help facilitate a permanent move next summer.
