Newcastle United had recently been linked with a move for Real Madrid left-back Ferland Mendy but the player doesn’t want to leave.
Reports have recently suggested that France international Ferland Mendy was surplus to requirements at Real Madrid and they’d look to move the 27-year-old on this summer.
Los Blancos want around £17.5million for Mendy but The Athletic are reporting that Mendy’s representatives have stated he has no intention of leaving Madrid and has a contract until 2025.
Newcastle face competition from Arsenal and Tottenham
Arsenal and Newcastle have both shown interest in Mendy who Raphael Varane has said has ‘amazing strength‘. There were links with a move to Tottenham earlier in the season, but Mendy will want Champions League football which rules out a move to Spurs who won’t be playing any European football next season.
Newcastle are looking for a new left-back with a move for Arsenal’s Kieran Tierney seeming the most likely option, which could open the door for them to try and tempt Mendy away from Real Madrid.

Mendy missed 14 La Liga games this season with a ‘muscle injury’ in two separate spells separated by just one game. He made 18 appearances in La Liga providing one assist. Overall he managed 28 appearances in all competitions.
Newcastle targets Tierney and Mendy both have their injury issues
That huge injury spell is a worry for me, which I realise may sound hypocritical given my support for Kieran Tierney who has a reputation of being made out of paper.
For me, I say stick with the pursuit of Tierney, he’s a Premier League player ready to go. Not that I think a player of Ferland Mendy’s talents would take long to get up to speed, I just really think Tierney will kick on at Newcastle and surprise a lot of people.
I’d obviously have no objections to seeing Mendy at Newcastle, but I’m a Tierney fanboy.
