Newcastle United are reportedly in the frame to sign Adam Armstrong this summer – but reportedly face huge competition over the striker.
The Magpies are now looking ahead to the summer transfer window after retaining their Premier League status for another year.
Supposedly there won’t be a lot to spend, and it’s likely the club will look at moves for free agents and players to come in on loan.
But according to The Sun, Newcastle are considering making an offer to re-sign Armstrong, who’s just finished a very fruitful campaign with Blackburn Rovers.
Armstrong bagged 28 goals in the Championship, with only Ivan Toney – another ex-Magpie of course – outscoring him (31).
Also in the mix are Everton, Brighton, West Ham United and Fulham, which potentially makes a transfer quite difficult.
Blackburn want the star to sign a new deal at Ewood Park.
Armstrong a marked man
With a number of other clubs reportedly looking to land Armstrong, Newcastle may ultimately struggle to bring the 24-year-old home.
Supposedly he’ll set potential suitors back around £25 million and it’s difficult seeing Newcastle spending that much, especially when it looks like Joe Willock is likely to be a priority.
That said, the Magpies supposedly do have a 40% sell-on clause over Armstrong, which could make a deal workable.
