Patient isn’t a word usually reserved for Newcastle United fans when it comes to transfers, but the Geordie faithful will have to exercise some patience before they get their first look at Sandro Tonali in a Newcastle shirt.
After seeing two of our top targets join our Premier League rivals already in this transfer window, the twitchy fans are starting to lose the faith if social media is to be believed.
It likely won’t help the situation that there’s now a delay in Sando Tonali‘s expected Tyneside arrival. According to EPL Index due to a minor hiccup, Tonali will not be in Newcastle until Wednesday.
There are mixed messages surrounding Tonali’s arrival in Newcastle
This comes off the back of Fabrizio Romano‘s very early-morning tweet saying that Newcastle’s Tonali announcement would be this weekend.
The report in EPL Index does suggest that there’s nothing to worry about and the transfer is still due to go ahead, but they don’t provide a reason for the delay either.
After losing out on James Maddison to Tottenham and Dominik Szoboszlai to Liverpool this week it would have been nice to have something positive to report on this weekend to allay the fears.
Newcastle tend to unleash surprises when it comes to transfers nowadays
One thing that is worth remembering though, Newcastle very rarely sign the players you’d expect. Sven Botman was the exception that rule, but the Kieran Trippier, Bruno Guimaraes, Alexander Isak and Sandro Tonali transfers came out of nowhere. They were practically done before the media even got hold of the stories.
That’s how Newcastle move these days, we deal in the shadows and unleash a surprise attack, so don’t be too downhearted that we missed out on Maddison and Szoboszlai as the reality is probably that they were never a priority.
