Newcastle United are going to miss out on Axel Disasi, but it could now give them a chance to sign another central defender.

Disasi is closing in on a move to Chelsea after the Blues agreed a £39million deal to sign the 25-year-old from AS Monaco.

The deal will delight Mauricio Pochettino, who has been forced to dip into the transfer market following another long-term injury suffered by Wesley Fofana.

But while Chelsea are bringing in Disasi as a replacement, it could lead to Trevoh Chalobah leaving the club – and he is someone who Newcastle have been linked with signing.

Trevoh Chalobah is now ready to leave Chelsea

According to the Evening Standard, Chalobah is now ready to leave Stamford Bridge and go in search of first-team football elsewhere.

The report states that Chalobah believes that his minutes will be limited if he stays at Chelsea, so he is now seeking a move away.

That could be good news for Newcastle, who are keen to sign a centre-back and have been linked with the 24-year-old during this summer’s transfer window.

He would be a good fit at St James’ Park, but money might be an issue.

That is because the Evening Standard state that Chelsea want £45million to sell Chalobah this summer. That is a crazy amount of money, and it is a fee that the Magpies simply will not pay.

A deal worth £45million would make him the most expensive defender in Toon history, eclipsing the £35million spent on Sven Botman this time last year. Is Chalobah worth more than Botman? Absolutely not.

With Disasi arriving and Chalobah keen to play regularly, it looks like a move away from West London is inevitable. Newcastle would be a good option for the defender, as we are a club on the up with a manager who has a great track record for improving players. Chalobah could be a great future replacement for Fabian Schar if he moves to the North East.

But at £45million, there is no way that Newcastle, or anyone for that matter, will be succumbing to Chelsea’s demands.

They need to lower their asking price, because that is ridiculous. If they really believe he is worth that much then he should be a regular starter!
