Newcastle United have been interested in Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher for a while but the young England international is digging his heels in at Stamford Bridge.
It’s not breaking news to say that Conor Gallagher wants to stay at Chelsea, but with Mauricio Pochettino at the helm, still working out his best eleven and trying to reduce the squad, it’s a decision that may not be down to Gallagher.
Eddie Howe is said to be a huge admirer of Gallagher which is why Newcastle‘s name is never far away from a transfer story involving the 23-year-old, but the Magpies aren’t the only Premier League club keeping their eye on the England midfielder.
Newcastle’s interest in Gallagher is ‘leading nowhere’ according to Jones
Transfer journalist Dean Jones told Give Me Sport that Everton have been putting the work in behind the scenes with Gallagher and after failing with a £40million approach in January are setting themselves to try again.
Speaking about the Gallagher situation, Jones said: “Conor Gallagher does not want to leave Chelsea so interest from Spurs, West Ham, Crystal Palace, Everton and Newcastle is all leading nowhere at this moment in time.

“This is a lad totally committed to establishing himself at the Bridge and while he will of course be open-minded further down the road if his path is totally backed, he’ll probably be in the starting line-up at the beginning of the season because there are no other options.
“Everton have been in touch over this one for the longest time and tried to sell themselves as a great platform for him to use to build his profile and standing in the game, and he would be pretty sure of game time week-after-week in their starting eleven.
“I don’t think Everton will totally let go of that hope until the window is closed but from Gallagher’s point of view, it’s not ideal. He would leave London for the right opportunity but is that it?”
Gallagher is shining for Chelsea in pre-season
Conor Gallagher is certainly not doing his chances of staying any harm by scoring in pre-season for Chelsea, and with their roster of misfiring midfielders, scoring goals is one way to stand out from the crowd.

Newcastle will get the chance to assess Gallagher up close on Thursday morning at 1:15am as they take on Chelsea in the Premier League Summer Series.
I’ve never been convinced that Conor Gallagher was a deal we could get done this summer, and seeing how he’s doing in pre-season for Chelsea I’m even more convinced that this one will not happen.
