Given that Newcastle United have added four first-team players to the ranks this season it’s only natural that some of the pre-existing squad could be feeling a bit unwanted.
All of Newcastle‘s squad will obviously be well aware of what their role will be at the club this season, but that awareness doesn’t always translate into acceptance.
A prime example will be Matt Targett whom, it has been reported, is the target of two Premier League clubs who want to sign the left-back on loan. Although those approaches have been rejected, Newcastle World have suggested that Targett is open to a move.
Matt Targett is growing frustrated by the lack of game time at Newcastle
The report claims that Targett is becoming frustrated at the lack of first-team opportunities since Dan Burn made the left-back position his own last season after originally filling in for the injured former Aston Villa man.
Now it’s not just Dan Burn that Targett has to contend with but youngster Lewis Hall who just arrived from Chelsea.

While Targett could be set for a brief spell in the first team given the injury to Sven Botman, he could also be equally open to a move away just a year after signing permanently from Aston Villa.
I don’t think many fans would blame him for wanting a move away, and I’m not even sure there’d be too many complaints from the Toon Army if Targett did leave, given how little he has played since making his loan move a permanent one.
Some fans feel Targett’s form hasn’t recovered following his injury
There have been suggestions from fans that Targett has never looked anywhere close to as good as he was while on loan following his unfortunate injury last season. Personally, I think that’s just more down to him not getting his chance than anything else.

Eddie Howe clearly doesn’t want to lose Targett, and him replacing Sven Botman on Sunday shows that he is very much still needed. It would also be a backwards step to bring in cover at left-back and immediately move one on when it was never about replacing anyone, but strengthening the position.
With so little time left in the transfer window I don’t think Targett will be going anywhere just yet.
