Newcastle United are hoping to sign Harvey Barnes, who has missed Leicester City’s first pre-season friendly of the summer.
The Magpies are looking to bring Barnes to St James’ Park, with the winger keen on the move. He has even agreed personal terms to sign for Newcastle, with Eddie Howe a big fan of the man who scored 13 Premier League goals last season.
All that is left to do is agree a price with Leicester. Hopefully that can be done, with Howe’s side looking to spend no more than £35million on the England international.
The Foxes will hope to get as much money as possible, but are likely resigned to losing Barnes. And the latest word coming out of Leicester could be good news for Newcastle.
Harvey Barnes not involved in Leicester friendly
Enzo Maresca’s side played their first friendly of the summer today (July 11th). They were beaten in a behind closed doors game by Peterborough United.
Leicester used two different XIs for each half, but there was someone very interesting missing from both sides.
Barnes did not feature in the friendly defeat for Leicester. The official reason they have given is that he was being ‘rested’, which seems suspicious. This is their first friendly of the summer, why would he already need a rest?
While he did not play, Barnes was in attendance, watching on as his current teammates lost 2-1 to the League One side.
Hopefully this hints that his future lies away from the King Power Stadium, and that a move to St James’ Park is on the horizon.
While it has been claimed that an official bid has not been submitted by Newcastle yet, all the noises suggest that this deal is going in the right direction. The fact that Barnes has already agreed personal terms is very encouraging, and could force Leicester’s hand.
He is pushing to sign for Newcastle, and his friendly absence hopefully hints towards Barnes getting his wish.
