Newcastle United could miss out on one of their top summer targets as Arda Guler is considering signing a new deal at Fenerbahce.
The 18-year-old wonderkid who has been compared to Lionel Messi announced himself onto the World stage on Monday night by scoring a sublime goal for Turkey against Wales in the Euro 2024 Qualifier. It was his first goal for the Turkish senior side on just his fourth appearance.
Newcastle are one several clubs who are hoping to activate Arda Guler‘s release clause this summer and land themselves a bargain. The Magpies have met with Guler’s family about a move on a couple of occasions and were said to be leading the race for Fenerbahce youth.
Guler could sign a new deal at Fenerbahce cancelling out his release clause
However, Fabrizo Romano has now said that Guler could sign a new contract at Fenerbahce so that his club can make more money on a potential sale. Romano said on his YouTube channel last night: “It’s also crucial to understand in this case what clubs around Europe can do for personal terms for Arda Guler.
“I told you about this release clause in the contract of the player at Fenerbahce, €17.5m [£15m] release clause for this fantastic talent. Arda Guler is a monster and he’s showing his fantastic skills every single week.

“But what I wanted to tell you is that the feeling at Fenerbahce is that there is a chance for the player to extend his contract.
“So, to deal with Fenerbahce, to respect the club and so to extend the contract and maybe leave if not this summer, next summer or in any case this summer but for more than €17.5m.
“It looks like an incredible fee, he’s a top talent and he’s probably worth €30, 35, 40m [£25.6m-£34.2m].
“This is why Arda Guler wants to respect Fenerbahce and he will consider the possibility to extend the contract and let the club get some money in the right way.
“This is a possibility for Arda Guler, to extend and then to leave on a bigger fee than €17.5m.”
If he signs a new deal it doesn’t mean the end for Newcastle
Nothing has been confirmed as yet, and Guler signing a new contract doesn’t entirely remove the prospect of a move this summer, it seems the move would be purely to help Fenerbahce receive a fairer price for their biggest prospect.

Newcastle have been watching Guler long enough to know his true worth, so may still feel that paying a fairer price for his services is going to be worth it. In fact, a sharp price increase could put other clubs off, paving the way for a move to Tyneside.
If Guler signs the new deal I hope it doesn’t spell the end of Newcastle’s interest as he looks like a phenomenal talent.
