It is the anti-competition lawsuit Mike Ashley filed earlier this year.

A three-man panel are determining whether there is enough evidence in Ashley’s claim to warrant whether the case should be heard.

A judgement on the matter will be revealed in due course, with no time-frame set by Mr Justice Miles.

One of the biggest things to emerge from an intense afternoon was sports lawyer Jowell saying the Premier League had threatened the Magpies with expulsion from the competition.

He said: “Notwithstanding its threats, the Premier League hasn’t carried through its threat to stop the club from participating in the competition.”

On social media, fans have been giving their reactions to the explosive revelation.

Quite a few people have been making the point that earlier this year, six teams were going to leave the Premier League to join a European Super League.

It was a move that would have destroyed English football, with intense fan pressure eventually resulting in all six clubs performing U-turns.

Those sides essentially all got a slap on the wrist and were allowed to choose their own punishments. They all agreed to a £22 million combined fine (via The Times).

Here’s what some Toon fans have said following the comments from Jowell:
