Rolando Aarons probably can’t believe what’s happened.

During pre-season he was handed a Newcastle lifeline by Steve Bruce and appeared to take his chance. Aarons was used as a left wing-back and did well, suggesting he’d be selected in the 25-man Premier League squad.

But that announcement came and Aarons was nowhere to be seen.

And by the time Newcastle’s squad had been announced, the transfer window had closed for Premier League and Championship clubs. This was a real blow for Aarons, because it looked like his future would be spent at the Newcastle training ground not playing competitively.

Last season he had a decent loan spell at Sheffield Wednesday, showing that he can be a top performer in the second tier of English football.

But now he’s set to play his football in the third tier. The club have announced that Aarons has joined Wycombe Wanderers on loan until January, meaning he’ll be coming up against rivals Sunderland in the near future.

Wycombe fans can’t actually believe their luck. To say they’re buzzing is an understatement. Some have described it as the club’s greatest signing in the past 30 years, while others just want their inevitable promotion to be announced.

No pressure, Rolando… Hopefully a player who has had real injury bother in recent years can stay fit and live up to the hype at Adams Park.
