Newcastle have to be wary of confident Raul Jimenez ahead of Wolves trip

The footballing world was delighted to see Raul Jimenez back on the scoresheet for Wolverhampton Wanderers for the first time in nearly a year yesterday.

The Mexican finally got on the scoresheet, netting in the 1-0 win over Southampton at the weekend.

It was a stunning piece of individual brilliance from the 30-year-old, as he showed his physical dominance by outmuscling Jan Bednarek to get onto Jose Sa’s kick.

He then showed great composure to cut inside Mohammed Salisu, before outfoxing Bednarek once again and finishing superbly.

It was a goal that highlighted the immense quality Jimenez possesses, and following the horror injury he sustained last year, it was an emotional moment for everyone connected to him and the club.

But now the former Benfica man’s confidence is going to be sky high and with him breaking his drought, he’s going to be wanting to torment defences with regularity once again.

Newcastle United travel to Wolves on Saturday, and Jimenez will be eager to score Wolves’ first Premier League home goal of the campaign and give his manager Bruno Lage his first top-flight win at Molineux.

Jimenez’s last goal prior to his injury actually came against Newcastle (Transfermarkt).

Difficult trip awaits for Newcastle

If Jimenez hadn’t of scored his first goal which gave his side all three points against Southampton, then the mood and atmosphere at Molineux come Saturday will no doubt have been completely different.

But with Wolves’ beloved number nine back to doing what he does best, the energy the crowd and his teammates would have gained from that emotional moment will have radiated a feel good factor across the club.

It’s going to be difficult for Steve Bruce’s side to contain and stop that wave of momentum from building further.

Jimenez will smell blood against a defence that has been leaking chances.

It could be a very busy afternoon for Karl Darlow because it seems very unlikely that Wolves’ performance isn’t going to be boosted following Jimenez’s return to the scoresheet.

Everyone connected to Newcastle would have been delighted to see Jimenez back doing what he does best, but we have to be fearful about the repercussions this could bring come Saturday.
