The writing has been on the wall for Rafael Benitez to leave Newcastle for some time now.

Mike Ashley has failed to back his manager time and time again and consistently lies about doing so. However, his latest pre-match interview has thrown his immediate future into doubt.

The Spanish manager has admitted he doesn’t know if he’ll be at St James’ Park at the end of the season and declared it wasn’t his business to persuade fans to renew their season tickets.

The frank admission has raised huge doubts over whether tonight’s game against Manchester City will indeed be his last.

Enough is enough for Benitez

He has seen his number one transfer targets slip by once again and enough may well be enough.

A man of honour, Benitez stuck with the Magpies following relegation to the Championship. However, a failure to back him in the transfer market and grant his wishes on club projects have clearly taken their toll.

The 58-year-old now seems like a broken spirit in every interview. There’s a growing feeling of dejection – from Benitez and the fans.

With no new signing imminent, even the fans chanting the Spaniard’s name as they did against Spurs in 2017 won’t be enough to convince their manager to stay passed another pathetic transfer window.
