When Newcastle United signed Jacob Murphy from Norwich City in July 2017, there were big hopes for the youngster.

Coming with a £12 million price tag, the winger was welcomed by the Toon Army – especially thanks to his Geordie roots.

Murphy continues to struggle

However, the 23-year-old has struggled to make an impression for the Magpies, and some fans are beginning to wonder whether the club signed the wrong brother.

Josh Murphy, who played alongside his twin for the Canaries, has excited fans at new club Cardiff this season. A regular in the Welsh side’s starting XI, Murphy has three goals in 18 appearances. This total would make him United’s second top scorer this term.

His direct approach is something that Rafael Benitez’s men have severely lacked. While his brother has shown glimpses of talent, it appears that his manager doesn’t believe in his ability. With Christian Atsu and Kenedy above him in the pecking order, it remains to be seen whether he will be able to break into the starting line-up on a regular basis.

His brother, meanwhile, can see his stock rise this weekend at St James’ Park. The clash is crucial for both sides in their fight to survive relegation.
