It may be only the sixth Premier League game of the season for Newcastle, but there is no doubt Brighton is a crucial game for Steve Bruce and his side.

Described by the head coach as having a feeling of a “cup final” to it during the week, Newcastle simply cannot afford to lose the game, which is being televised on Sky Sports at 5.30pm.

Even a draw will almost certainly not be enough, when you factor in the three games which directly follow this one.

The prospect of going to Leicester, then playing host to Manchester United the following week, without more than the four points they currently have against their name is not good.

With those two games being followed by Chelsea away, after the next international break, and you begin to realise just why the three points in this game will be so huge.

But it is a very winnable game for Newcastle, and fans, players and coaching staff alike, will be very disappointed if they do not take all the points from it.

Here are what the Geordie Boot Boys team and the experts are predicting:

Steve Bruce is still waiting for his first win at St James’ Park as Newcastle manager and this will obviously be a very good time to get it.

Both of these teams are in the bottom five, and it is important to beat the teams around you, especially at home.

Prediction: Newcastle 2-0 Brighton

It is a golden opportunity for these players to help Bruce slide into a decent position. Joelinton will find his feet, while Miguel Almiron is playing on the edge of games and has been tame at times – it is time for him to fire.

Brighton started the season superbly, but then what has Graham Potter’s style been thereafter? Their back three is always consistent in what they give you, but Newcastle will find ways to exploit it.

Prediction: Newcastle 3-1 Brighton

Lee Ryder – The Chronicle

Like Newcastle, Brighton have conceded eight goals in the Premier League so far, and there’s not much in this one if we are being brutally honest.

Toon players were hurt by their collapse at Liverpool and Bruce may not need to give them much of a gee up.

I think United will emerge victorious on Saturday night.

Prediction: Newcastle win

Robbie Savage – Daily Mirror

Savage thinks Newcastle will come out on top of Brighton’s long trip to the north east.

Prediction: Newcastle 1-0 Brighton

I am confident Newcastle will grab a much-needed three points against Brighton – but I was just as confident for the Watford game.

Just having Andy Carroll and Allan Saint-Maximin on the bench will give the side, and crowd, a lift.

It will be vital for Newcastle to support Joelinton up front, and see him as a genuine goal threat, rather than having to just hold up play.

An early goal will be key to settling everyone’s nerves.

Prediction: Newcastle 2-0 Brighton

James Rutherford

We’ve got to win haven’t we? We should’ve beat Watford in our last home game but it wasn’t to be.

This time we’ll have a bit more fire power and depth on the bench, which should help us get the three points we need. In a fantasy world, Carroll comes off the bench to score the winner, but anything will do.

Whether Carroll slams home a header or it comes off Jonjo Shelvey’s backside, it doesn’t matter.

Prediction: Newcastle 1-0 Brighton
