The worst fears of Newcastle fans looms large, as the Sun report an official approach for Sheffield Wednesday manager Steve Bruce is being readied.

The report claims he is now the priority target, and the club are willing to pay the compensation package required, thought to be no more than £1 million.

Fans will be in despair at the prospect of one of the merry-go-round managers getting the job, especially considering his record at the top level is very, very poor.

Lee Charnley clearly does not know the qualities that make up a good manager, and what he sees in Bruce that would make him his preferred choice is baffling.

If true, fans may leave in their droves

It is a move that is almost certain to alienate many more fans than those who already have decided to walk away from the club they love.

Bruce would be a lazy, mind-boggling, pathetic appointment – which ironically sums up the running of Newcastle United under Mike Ashley.

After having the Rolls Royce that was Rafa Benitez, fans will now be subjected to the Robin Reliant that is Steve Bruce.

It is an amazing decision, and that Charnley is pressing on with him, given the reaction and backlash that the speculation received on social media from fans yesterday, proves that he does not care one iota for the fans of the club.

It is going back to a Joe Kinnear, Alan Pardew or Steve McClaren type of appointment, with him already seen as someone who will simply toe the line of the shambolic hierarchy at the club.

It is a joke of a decision, from a joke of a club.
