Newcastle United are prepared to spend well in the summer transfer window; they should make a Premier League star bossing the Under-21 European Championships their second summer signing.

With the first couple of weeks in the summer transfer window being rather drab for the Magpies, business has picked up over the last few days after a £45m offer for Anthony Elanga was rejected by Nottingham Forest.

Newcastle United are not prepared to take no for an answer, and have reportedly made a second approach for Elanga since then, as well as moves for Brighton’s Joao Pedro and Burnley’s James Trafford. However, they must be wary of their mistakes in the last summer transfer, where several bids were rejected for Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi.

A right-sided attacker is high on Newcastle manager Eddie Howe’s list of priorities this summer, with Jacob Murphy the only natural right-winger at his disposal at the moment. Newcastle have a healthy transfer budget and look set to spend it to help their chances of being competitive in the Champions League next season.

After his brilliant showings in the Under-21 European Championships, Newcastle should go all in to sign someone who solves many problems for them.

Newcastle United should sign Liverpool’s Harvey Elliott this summer

After winning the Premier League title with Liverpool last season, Harvey Elliott is now showing what he can do with England’s Under-21s at the European Championships in Slovakia.

The 22-year-old has been sensational in the tournament, scoring four goals in England’s five games, including a brace in their most recent win against the Netherlands to advance to the finals.

Newcastle were linked with Elliott in March, just a week after their historic Carabao Cup win against Liverpool. Elliott was named as one of four players who could be offered to the Magpies as a sweetener for a deal to sign Alexander Isak, but the Swede is not likely to leave the club this summer.

Elliott looks like he would be a great fit for Newcastle, given the fact that he can play as a central midfielder, attacking midfielder or a right-winger. Howe is a big fan of versatility, so Elliott does fit the bill for the Newcastle manager’s ideal player.

In May, TalkSPORT reported that Elliott will cost around £40m this summer, a fee the Magpies should be able to afford.

Tino Livramento could persuade Harvey Elliott to sign for Newcastle United

Last season, Elliott was a backup option in Arne Slot’s Liverpool side. The youngster will surely be eager to play much more often next season, so he could push for a move away from the Reds this summer.

Elliott is linked with a move to Wolves, but his asking price appears to be a stumbling block for them. While Wolves remain keen, Newcastle have a secret weapon in Tino Livramento, who could try to persuade Elliott into joining the Magpies.

The pair are playing together with England’s Under-21s in Slovakia and appear to have a good friendship with each other off the pitch.

Elliott commented on Livramento’s latest Instagram post showing highlights of him throughout the 2024/25 season with Newcastle, to which the Liverpool man said: “so good.”

Livramento already has good friend Lewis Hall with him at Newcastle, but with a bit of persuasion he could tempt Elliott to take the plunge and sign this summer.
