Newcastle United have paid £4 million in compensation to Sheffield Wednesday for Steve Bruce to take over from Rafa Benitez at St James’ Park, according to the Sun.
News emerged on Monday morning that Bruce and his entire backroom staff had handed in their resignations, ahead of a move to the North East, and it now seems nailed on that he will be unveiled in the coming days.

Fans are furious about the move, and it will increase tensions between the club and its supporters, which makes the move even more baffling and bizarre.
Money there for quick deals when it suits Lee Charnley
Fans will also point to the fact that they have managed to pay a large sum of money for Bruce in such a short period of time, but whenever Rafa wanted to sign a player, Lee Charnley would drag his feet, and refuse to stump up asking prices.

The result was, more often than not, the club missing out on their target, leaving the Spanish former manager frustrated at the club’s inability to get deals done.
Ironic then, that when they want to do so, they can find funds to make a quick deal – regardless of the fact it is likely to be a catastrophic disaster waiting to happen.

For the club to pay such a figure, for a manager with a pedigree as poor as Bruce’s, is staggering. Like many other fans, I simply cannot see anything about him that makes Charnley think he is the man to take us forward.
