Newcastle fans are trying to come to terms with Steve Bruce likely being the next manager at St James’ Park, with the Daily Express reporting he will be formally announced today.
But fans, who are furious about the potential replacement for Rafa Benitez, could have some hope that it may not be quite as much of a shoo-in as we are led to be believed.
Sky Sports News reported during their Transfer Talk show, that Bruce has taken training with the Sheffield Wednesday squad today.
Whether the Hillsborough hierarchy are making a last ditch attempt to convince their manager to stay in Yorkshire, remains to be seen.
It would seem strange that a manager on the verge of changing clubs, and having allegedly held talks with Newcastle on Thursday, would then show up to take training with the Owls today.
Is there yet to be a twist in the Steve Bruce tale?
Maybe there will be a late fly in the ointment for Lee Charnley, or maybe Bruce is just honourable enough to continue working until a compensation deal is ratified.
But as long as he is there, the chance remains that he will be talked into staying at Wednesday.
Bizarrely, that would be a satisfying outcome to fans of both clubs. In fact, the only disappointed parties would be Charnley and Mike Ashley, which would give Toon fans further cause for celebration.
If it was not to happen, it would not be a massive surprise, given Charnley’s inept history of not being able to get deals done, on any level, at the football club.
Newcastle fans will hope that he fails this time too!
