When you look at the Premier League stats page, Newcastle United don’t feature near the top a lot.

Any attacking statistic sees the Magpies struggling near the bottom, joint with Watford for the least goals scored so far this season.

But when it comes to goalkeeping, Martin Dubravka is still flying the black and white flag. The 30-year-old seemed like the perfect goalkeeper when he first arrived, but cracks have started to form in his game over the past 12 months.

However, he is still one of the best in the Premier League, and the stats help back that up.

Dubravka has three clean sheets so far this season, putting him joint third with six other keeps. Only Dean Henderson and Ederson have four clean sheets so far. While there isn’t a lot between them, Dubravka is at least in the conversation.

Bernd Leno has made the most saves so far this season with 35. In sixth place is Dubravka, who’s recorded 28 saves. He made some key ones against Chelsea, and it arguably would’ve been a bigger defeat had it not been for him.

The Newcastle number one is third again when it comes to high claims with six, one less than leaders Leno and Ederson. And in terms of punches clear, our man is third again on five. The only people ahead of him are Vicente Guaita and ex-Magpie Tim Krul.

There is talk of Dubravka getting a new contract at Newcastle, and the sooner the better as the stats show that he is still one of the best in England. He’s certainly not at an elite level, but his performances and stats show he can certainly compete with the ‘best of the rest’.
