News of Steve Bruce’s resignation from Sheffield Wednesday, according to BBC Sport – meaning his appointment at Newcastle almost inevitable – has been met with anger and disappointment in both cities.
Bruce’s assistants, Steve Agnew and Stephen Clemence, have also allegedly left their posts, and it is anticipated they will join Bruce at St James’ Park.

The vast majority of Newcastle fans do not want him as manager, in what many feel is as far a step down from Rafa Benitez as you could get.
But Wednesday fans were desperate for Bruce to stay, with him having worked wonders at Hillsborough since he started his role there in February.

The club had a sensational unbeaten run, which almost saw them make an unexpected appearance in the Championship play-offs, before falling just short.
Unscrupulous move from Steve Bruce at odds with earlier comments

Wednesday fans have, naturally, reacted with anger at the disrespect they feel they have been shown by the man they thought would see them back to the Premier League just a few days ago.
