Newcastle travel to Sheffield United for their latest game, and Toon fans will be hopeful they succeed where others have failed, by bringing the Premier League newcomers down to earth.
It has been a dream start for Chris Wilder’s side, as they have compounded all expectations so far, and taken to top flight football like they have been playing in it for years.
Newcastle have also fared slightly better than many feared, with a win tonight taking Steve Bruce’s side on the brink of the top 10.
The Blades are unbeaten in their last seven Premier League games, their last loss coming against league leaders Liverpool in September.
Prior to that Liverpool defeat, they lost at home to Sunderland in the EFL Cup, and Newcastle fans will be hoping they can make it a Tyne-Wear double tonight, as they hope to set up a great platform for Sunday’s home game with Southampton.
A draw tonight and win on sunday would be good return for Newcastle
In all honesty, if Newcastle can get a draw tonight, and a win on Sunday, to follow on from the draw with champions Manchester City last weekend, it would be five points from a possible nine, and would put them in good spirits ahead of a difficult Christmas schedule.
For Sheffield United fans, they are probably as surprised at their side’s form as most people are, and they will now be confident of beating almost anybody.
Some of their supporters have been giving their thoughts on tonight’s game, and they seem to feel it is a crucial game. Here are what some of them have been saying on Twitter:
Too many people predicting a blades win tonight. Stop it. No good will come of it. I’m sticking with my usual “this will be the game we get hammered” prediction.. It’s worked previous 14 games this season 😂 #sufc #twitterblades

Hate these games where people expect a routine win .#sufc

Despite the huge points tally we’ve already gained , the next 2 games are massive . These are teams that will be in and around the bottom 8 . 2 draws not a disaster for me . I’m happy to keep the gap between us and the bottom 3 #sufc

Next five games against so called ‘lesser lights’ of the Premier League, could be season defining. It’s imperative wins are achieved. We’re doing well, but let’s not lose sight of the fact we are only FIVE points off the bottom three. Fine margins UTB ⚔️ #SUFC

Gutted I can’t make tonight. Big few games coming up could easily be all but safe after boxing day. 11 points are a minimum from next 5 #sufc
