Leeds United winger Raphinha was one of the standout performers in last night’s Premier League game with Newcastle United.

The 24-year-old lined up as a right winger for the Whites, and spent most of his time in the final third causing problems for Newcastle.

It was he that provided Leeds with their opener, receiving the ball inside the area from Rodrigo and converting with deadly precision into the bottom corner.

He then turned provider in the second half, clipping a lovely ball over the top for Jack Harrison, who finished brilliant on the half-volley from a tight angle.

The Brazilian really was a menace at St. James’ Park, and it was difficult not think where Newcastle could potentially be had they signed him when they had the chance.

The Shields Gazette have reported that Raphinha was under consideration by Newcastle in January 2019.

He was available for £12.5 million at the time, with Newcastle supposedly having scouted him several times.

Ultimately though, United landed Miguel Almiron, who was probably underwhelmed during his time at the club, although he occasionally shows flashes of brilliance.

Raphinha looks the real deal

The South American starred last night, but he’s been at it pretty much all season for Leeds following his £17 million transfer from Rennes last summer (BBC Sport).

The star has amazing technical quality and fantastic work rate to boot.

Newcastle’s loss, is looking very much like Leeds’ gain, as Raphinha improves with each passing game.
