PIF bought Newcastle United for £305million in October 2021, and that is looking more and more like a bargain.
It was a ridiculously long takeover saga that felt like it was never going to end, but eventually it did. Now Newcastle United are looking forwards rather than backwards, and have enjoyed a lot of success since Mike Ashley’s departure.
Under the management of Eddie Howe, the outlook is a lot brighter on Tyneside. He got the Magpies to a Wembley final, while he also brought Champions League nights back to St James’ Park.
He has done remarkably well, backed by the financial muscle of PIF. They have invested heavily in Newcastle United, although have not been able to fully flex their financial muscles due to the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules.
In time, PIF will spend more and more money on the Magpies as they look to help the club become one of the biggest and most successful in world football.
And they will be more than willing to invest given how much it would have cost them to buy one of Newcastle’s Premier League rivals.

Brentford worth more than what Newcastle United was in 2021
We have already seen Chelsea be sold for billions of pounds. Their valuation proved why PIF were right to go for the Newcastle project at £305million. They did look at Chelsea, but it was simply too much money.
Elsewhere, Sir Jim Ratcliffe has spent more than that on Manchester United, and he does not even have complete control.
Now Brentford are the latest Premier League club who could experience a change of ownership, and their valuation further solidifies what a bargain Newcastle United was in October 2021.
According to Sky News, Brentford owner Matthew Benham is looking to sell the Bees, who could cost more than £400million.
While they do have the financial advantage of being in London, it is crazy to see a club like Brentford, with all due respect, valued at more than Newcastle was a few years ago.
Given how much other clubs are going for, Mike Ashley will wish he demanded more money from PIF! Although in truth, he is probably just happy to have the club off his hands after how drawn out the takeover saga was.
As for PIF, they will know they made the right decision in investing in Newcastle United.
