After a week of silence regarding the potential takeover of Newcastle United, the Bin Zayed Group (BZG) have made a new reassuring comment.

The Chronicle reports the group to have been in touch and assured them that progress is “all good” and on track.

The news is bound to reassure fans who were getting nervous that it may all fizzle out, having heard nothing for over a week.

But it has been Eid – the Muslim Festival Of Breaking The Fast – which means that most businesses have been closed during the week.

Of course, there has still been no official word from Newcastle United, and until something is said, some fans will find it hard to take the alleged bidders seriously.

But should the confidentiality clauses be in place, then it may be that they are following the correct procedures.

A comment regarding BZG’s stance on Rafa Benitez’s future would be helpful

But, as long as the BZG are making statements, it would be helpful if they could state – on record – their intentions towards Rafa Benitez.

Fans rightly want their Spanish talisman to commit to the future of the club, and the knowledge that the group have been in touch with Rafa would put worried fans at ease.

There were more rumours of Jose Mourinho being linked to the St James’ Park role, but the supporters are almost unanimous in their preference to see Benitez remain on Tyneside for many years to come.

A comment from any of Rafa, Newcastle United or BZG could not harm anyone, and if anything, can only help to boost season ticket sales – assuming that the comments were positive ones.
