Unless Bayer Leverkusen lower their asking price, Newcastle United may need to look for an alternative to Moussa Diaby.
The Frenchman is the Magpies’ top attacking target, as Eddie Howe looks to add more goals to his team. Diaby is certainly capable of that, scoring 13 times and providing 12 assists in the Bundesliga last season.
Those numbers are why Newcastle are so keen to sign him, and why Leverkusen are so desperate to keep him.
The Telegraph recently reported that the German side will only consider offers worth at least £60million. That’s more than Newcastle are willing to pay, leading to something of a stalemate.
They add that despite the lofty asking price, the Magpies are not yet giving up on signing the 23-year-old.
However, they may have to eventually if a compromise cannot be agreed. Luckily there are other options out there for Newcastle.
And one they should target is currently playing his football in the Netherlands.
Noni Madueke would be a great Moussa Diaby alternative
One player who has tentatively been linked with Newcastle is PSV Eindhoven winger Noni Madueke.
90min recently reported that the Magpies are tracking the England Under-21 international. The 20-year-old has been playing in the Netherlands since 2018, leaving Tottenham at the age of 16.
He could have joined Manchester United, but opted to move abroad and it’s a decision that has gone very well. Madueke is developing into an incredibly exciting winger, and has produced impressive back-to-back seasons with PSV.
The youngster got 15 goal contributions last season, and 17 the year prior. He’s got end product as well as an incredible dribbling style – he’s the type of player that fans love to watch.
It would make him a real hit at St James’ Park, especially with him on one wing and Allan Saint-Maximin on the other.
A ‘dynamic’ winger who ‘wants to run in behind’
Madueke is really impressive for his age, and has already caught the eye of Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers.
“He’s a talented player, he’s physically very good, he’s got a nice left foot, he’s dynamic, he wants to run in behind,” he said.
Those comments prove what a talent he is, and why he could be a star on Tyneside.
Madueke is certainly a star of the future, and will surely end up back in England. And Newcastle could be the perfect place for him to continue his development.
We need a right winger, and we’re also looking for young players who can grow with the club. Madueke ticks those boxes, and would surely be a lot cheaper than Diaby.
It looks like Newcsatle are really going to struggle to land the France international, so hopefully Madueke is next on Eddie Howe’s list of attacking targets.
