As ludicrous Newcastle claims go, a report from Spanish publication El Gol Digital may have scooped the award for the most ridiculous, with their claims over the manager’s job and striker move.
They claim that Jose Mourinho is set to replace Rafa Benitez at St James’ Park, with him likely to be given carte blanche over signings and who should stay or leave the club.

As if that was not laughable enough, they manage to raise it another notch, by claiming one of his first acts could be to scupper any deal for Joselu to be sold.
It is the latest in a raft of bizarre, and frankly insulting, claims to be made during a summer quite unlike any other fans have gone through in recent memory.
Possibly the least believable claim of the summer
The Mourinho claim is nonsensical in a number of ways, apart from the fact that the man himself has distanced himself from the job under Mike Ashley’s limitations.

And to think Ashley would tear up his frustrating Newcastle United blueprint, and give any manager full say on transfers, is as bizarre as it gets.
Then there is the Joselu claims, despite the fact Mourinho handed him his Real Madrid debut, the thought that he would want free reign on signings, and yet keep the misfiring Spaniard beggars belief.
Add to that a photo of the player at Newcastle airport, and it appears that their is very little credibility to the story.
Although some speculative stories this summer have given fans pause for thought, I think it is fair to say this will not be one of them.
