Newcastle fans have taken to Twitter in the aftermath of Sunday’s 3-0 defeat to Brighton with one message for Steve Bruce – start Miguel Almiron.
The Paraguay international grabbed an assist in each of his first two games this term, both of them coming from the bench. However, despite his impressive impact during these cameos, Bruce still failed to reward him with a starting berth against the Seagulls.
In our view, that wasn’t fair. Almiron got his head down and worked hard when eventually subbed on against West Ham and Blackburn, and his work-rate surely would’ve helped us contend with the threat of Tariq Lamptey.
He showed much more energy and desire than any other Newcastle player, and should’ve had an assist for Callum Wilson but for the striker’s terrible miss.
After the embarrassing defeat, The Shields Gazette report that Bruce said it ‘would’ve been unfair’ on Andy Carroll had he been dropped in place of Almiron.
That seems strange, as it feels just as unfair to see the ex-Atlanta man remain on the sidelines.
Let’s see what the Newcastle fans on Twitter have been saying…
Newcastle fans call on Steve Bruce to start Miguel Almiron following defeat to Brighton
We’re all in agreement that Almiron should be starting every single PL game from here on in, right?

Almiron must start next week, no doubt about it (and probably will if ASM is injured) #NUFC
— Sam Jones (@SamJonesJourno) September 20, 2020
Almiron should be the first name on the team sheet to start. #NUFC

In what world is Miguel Almiron not in the starting XI for Newcastle? Absolutely ridiculous from Bruce (again). #nufc

Any manager that thinks he doesn’t need to play Almiron is not a manager. His work rate going back and his ability going forward, no other player comes close in that squad #NUFC

Almiron to start against Spurs, has to #NUFC
