Over the past week or so, there have been several names linked with a move to Newcastle. But Miguel Almiron might be the most interesting one of all.
The 24-year-old has been a revelation in the MLS over the past couple of years, scoring nine goals in each of the last two seasons.
His performances have caught the eye across Europe, which is exactly why Newcastle will struggle to get their man.
Interest in Almiron from elsewhere makes Newcastle chase a waste of time
Under the current regime, transfers seem to take a lifetime.

The Magpies haggle over every last penny, offer well below the asking price, then eventually walk away with no deal complete.
And a potential deal is all the more difficult when there are far more ambitious clubs interested in the same player.
That is the case with Almiron, who is also a reported target for West Ham and Arsenal.
Of the three clubs interested, Newcastle has to be the least likely destination. The West Ham owners put their money where their mouths are this summer, spending huge money on Felipe Anderson and Issa Diop.
As for Arsenal, they’re one of the biggest clubs in the country who are entering an exciting new era. Why wouldn’t a player like Almiron want to move to the Emirates?
That leaves Newcastle. Unambitious and fighting relegation. When you look at the competition, why would the Newcastle hierarchy even entertain the idea of competing for Almiron?
It would only end in tears.
